Sketches

These are the sketches i did from the beginning until the end of 1st semester.
I use my sketchbook as a record for most of the RUS 104 projects and sometimes i did some practices in my sketchbook before I start drawing it on my cartridge paper.
But there are some sketches I did when i was free. It has nothing related to HBP RUS104 studio, just something random I saw and i draw it in my own sketchbook

These are the sketches and drawings I did and i uploaded in Facebook last time.
I decided to share it here, they are part of my drawings when I have free time.

P/s: Some of the photos are not labeled with my name but for sure these are really my personal drawings. HAHA. Maybe they are not good enough, but I am working on it.

RUS 104 STUDIO 2013

When I first stepped into USM, I find out that HBP, School of Housing Building and Planning is a 'special' school that most of the students stay up late, until morning just to finish their studio projects. I wasn't really sure about that, until I got project 3. Project 3 was the first project that i spent overnight to complete it. Back to project 1, I not sure that why should a HBP student learn how to sketch their own portrait and write a biography about him/herself, but I know there must be a reason behind everything that our lecturers gave us to do. Project 2 was quite a nightmare, I honestly not a great sketcher, I tried my best to pump up my drawing skills after project 2, from project 1 & 2, I've learned that there are so many classmates around me are great painters and great sketchers, they do have their own style in drawings or paintings, it doesn't drag down my passion but it did actually pumped up and gave ohm for me to learn more and practice more in drawing and painting.

What I learned from RUS 104 was,
First, Lecturers are not that fierce eventually. In my thoughts, i thought that lecturers or studio masters might be very bossy and do not lead us or do not really bother about us in our learning journey. Yes, we have to do our own work by ourselves of course, but most of the lecturers were kind enough to share their experiences and gave us some guides and tips for helping us in completing our project, maybe that we're in first year maybe ? But anyway, I am very thankful and feeling glad that i have Dr. Suraiyati as my studio masters, when she doesn't smile, she looks quite serious but when she started to explain everything to us, i felt that she did actually care a lot about us and gave us a lot guidance and lead us well.

Second, The studio life. I had been overnight in studio for many many nights that I don't even remember how many nights were there. I had slept in 3 stool in one row before, i had slept on the table and i had tried never slept at all and just keep on drawing in studio. Studio was like my second hostel, I had my meal there, I stay there from morning until night and from night to morning. Studio is also a place where we get to know about each other no matter Chinese or Malays. Somehow I love our friends playing some musics at night while we were doing studio projects, and I miss those nights when our seniors or muslims friends came over and ask whether do we need dapao some food in late night at 3am! It was quite touching and yet those were the greatest memories to be remembered.

Third, besides all those studio lives and all. I had learned a lot new skills from studio RUS104 too. I had learned a better painting and drawing skills from most of the projects. I learned to do a better site analysis from project 5 where we need to do our own analysis based on few given sites. From project 3, I learned a better skills in drawing perspective view and learned to present a better presentation board. It was a great experience when I stood in front of the crowd any present my own project, sometimes we might get 'shoot' by few lecturers but their comments always bring good leads to us. I learned more from that. Besides paintings and drawings and all, we even learned how to saw good woods and learned how to combine joints. Everything i had learned can't be explained and describe by words from one to another. It was a great life in studio rus 104. I am looking forward to RUS 106 in the next semester. I know it might be a tougher semester but I will get it through :)

RUS 104 Project 8

Performance Night

Performance night was an awesome night for me. The theme itself was an unique theme compared to those previous theme I've ever heard. "The Lost Kingdom" Performance and Awards Night was conducted by Dr. Azree.

We spent a week to prepare for our performance night. For clothing, we bought cloth and sew our costume by ourselves. We have our own dress code that represent our kingdom. For Urban & Regional Planning, we got "LANGKASUKA" as our kingdom, it was originally from SIAM, which is THAILAND now. We searched online and google for some pictures to get them as reference for making us easier when we prepare for our props and costumes.

We decided to take traditional dance as our performance on that night. I am incharging in preparing our costumes and props since I am not a good dancer. I tried my best to contribute as a teammate even though i did not join the performance part.

The performance team group photo. Behind them was a huge piece of cloth painted with ancient people. It was painted by a group of talented committees and i personally love it :)

The photo above shows when the piece of art was in progressing in studio 100

Me and my lovely coursemates that we'll spend the rest of the 3 years in USM and the flag of our kingdom, LANGKASUKA!

The guys with those superb props that they've made with woods and painted in silver and wooden colour paint.

Aqilah, our coure representative and she did contributed and helped us alot during the whole semester, thank you Aqilah !

That's a wrap for my post, and it somehow shows how we ended our sem 1. It was a short yet long sem. Long as in we did a lot in the whole sem, Short because we had created a great great life and memories and spent together with each other. It seems like it just happened yesterday when we first came into HBP and everyone still looking freshie and don't know where to go, until we started to overnight in studio, sharing the same music and had supper together, laugh and work together for most of the projects given by studio masters and it's time to say goodbye now. May our friendship last long and may our dreams come true

RUS 104 Project 7

RUS 104 STUDIO almost come to an end.
Project 7 was about exhibition. When i were still a freshie, i used to remember what seniors told me about the exhibitions, the performance nights, the good and bad memories yet to remember. Time flies, it is December now, it sounds that we have to wrap up our first semester project by carrying out an exhibition. To exhibit our products and hardwork within this semester.

I am an urban and regional planning student, we were require to share the same booth with Interior Design and our booth decoration has to be synchronize to each other.
So we decided to do something that shows us are 'planning' student or 'ID' student.
The booth decoration project as known as Project 7 last for a week, as usual. We actually spent 3 days to decorate our booth, For me myself, i wasn't really satisfy with my booth decoration because we were at first planned to do something better but it failed. It is okay since our booth get the 1st place among all the booth in the school of HBP.

During the week of booth decoration, we had a lot of fun among us.
Although we are in different major, just because RUS 104 STUDIO, we are able to sit together and work together when we were preparing for our project. What makes me feel great about RUS 104 was the projects we were given to complete, besides, the mixtures of 7 majors to study together in first year was an great idea since HBP student seriously do not have much time for doing social and make new friends.

The combinations of 7 majors in 1 classroom is awesome and it brings a lot of fun and even hold our friendship bond tighter.

RUS 104 Project 6C

Project 6c was a challenging project. We were require to build an amphitheater stage model with the scale of 1:5. The model making part was fun, it was time consuming and also a money consuming project.
First, we were quite lucky that we have few of our group members has the experience on ''dealing'' with the woods. we spent only 1 day to build the platform as known as 'plataforma X'
The next few days, we started to build the curve roof and supporting columns.

The white coloured base is the platform, it was the first thing we build before we raise up everything.

Next, we begun to build the columns, Since we couldn't make a straight wood into curve shape, so we did something like added a curved wood at the edges and filled up the gap with wood filler before we painted it white to cover up them.

When everything was done, we started to 'plant' the grass on the roof.
We bought those artificial grass from DAISO with RM5 for each piece for covering up the roof as our green roof. We tried very hard to make sure that it do not show the gap between each of the grass carpet.

In our presentation board, the bottom part of the green roof is climbers because the grass itself could not hold on the steep slope on the roof. Climbers will do and it was the best choice to cover up the steep slope of  the roof.

These are the details of each of the small parts of 'The Oxygen'

We were quite happy and satisfy with the outcome although we failed to fix lighting effect in our amphitheater, it was a great experience to work together with all my friends from 7 different courses in the mixture of all races. We get the know more about each other. Besides that, all of them have better ideas in different fields, when we share together, we learn more and it leads us move further. I was quite glad that our group did not happen any quarrel in these 6 weeks. Eventually, project 6 had come to an end. I was surprised that our amphitheater stage has actually won the 2nd place among all the competitors, it is the biggest compliment to us for working hard on this project.
